Farewell Address (July 2nd,2016)
Greetings! I trust that your time in Korea has been beneficial.
This year marks the 21st Journey that our company has hosted. Compared to typical years, this year the number of participants was significantly lower, which could have resulted in the trip being a bit monotonous for you. Was everything okay? I hope you are leaving with many good memories.
Many years ago we hosted Canadien adoptees and their families. The participants were very curious about our motivations. “Why would the company host such a trip? What do they want from us? Why would the company undertake such a difficult task - is it for money?” Since these are things that many participants throughout the years have wondered, let me begin by explaining the reason we started this endeavor back in 1996.
For adoptees struggling with their identity, being able to enlighten them about the spirit and culture of their motherland, giving them the knowledge that they too are Korean and that in their heart runs Korean blood - this is how we express patriotism. Even though this may be the 21st time we have conducted this trip, the preparation for it still takes almost an entire year. When CEO Andy Park visits Europe or the U.S., he often meets adoptees, buying them dinner with allotted company funds. Why, you ask? This is how we express fraternal love.
Our company does not receive any funding from the Korean government or other businesses for Journey. I am incredibly grateful that my son, CEO Park, has done such a magnificent job taking over and leading the trip. Doing much better than I could have done, he prepares for the trip with deep sincerity, leading it personally every year from start to finish with such love and earnesty that it touches my heart as well.
During last year’s 20th Anniversary celebration I witnessed someone admiring the special book we published commemorating these past 20 years. For 21 years to the best of our ability and without stoppage we have sponsored this program. Our hope was and always has been that Korean international adoptees who have suffered the loss of their birth heritage would gain hopes and dreams, discover joy and confidence in recovering their native identity, and that we could shine a light on the beauty of their motherland.
I hope that here today as you share your honest reflections about your time in Korea that this experience will also serve as a chance for you to gain new determination and resolve in your own life journey. We hope that in the future you will continually deliver great news to us about you, and we pray that God will abundantly bless you with love and grace.

안녕하세요? 유익한 시간이 되었으리라 믿습니다.
우리 회사가 이 프로그램을 시작한지 올해가 21번째입니다. 예년에 비하여 금년은 인원이 다소 적어서 행사진행이 오히려 단조로웠을 수도 있는데 괜찮았습니까? 좋은 추억을 많이 간직하기를 바랍니다.
몇 년 전에 캐나다에서 양부모들과 입양아들이 함께 왔을 때의 일입니다. 참가자들이 궁금해 하면서 도대체 이런 일을 왜 하느냐? 무엇을 바라고 하느냐? 돈들이며 무엇을 바라고 이 어려운일을 하느냐? 모두가 궁금해 하신다고 해서 내가 1996년도에 처음으로 시작하게 된 동기부터 쫙 설명을 했습니다.
정체성을 모르고 방황하는 이들에게 조국의 얼과 문화와 역사를 일깨워 줌으로 대한민국이 자기들의 조국임을 일깨워주고 조국의 피가 그 가슴에 흐르고 있음을 일깨우는 것이라고, 그것이 곧 애국이라고 했습니다. 올해 21번째 인데 준비하고 진행하는 일은 거의 일 년 내내 입니다. 사장이 미국가면 미국에서도 유럽가면 유럽에서도 입양인 들을 만나고 밥 사주고 시간과 돈을 씁니다. 왜 그러겠습니까? 그것이 곧 동포애입니다.
정부나 기업체에서 후원이나 도움 받은 것 한 푼도 없습니다. 감사한 것은 제가 하던 일을 아들이 잘 이어간다는 것이 얼마나 고맙고 감사한지 모릅니다. 나보다 더 잘하고 성심을 다하여 준비하고 처음부터 끝까지 직접 진두지휘하여 아낌없는 사랑과 정성을 다하는 것을 보면서 감동을 받습니다.
지난 20년의 모든 진행프로그램을 담아서 20년사를 발간했는데 그것을 보면서 감탄하는 사람들을 보았습니다. 이일이 아무쪼록 중단 없이 지속되어서 정체성을 잃고 살아가는 해외입양인들에게 희망과 꿈을 심어주고 자기정체성을 회복한 기쁨과 자신감으로 조국을 빛내며 살아가기를 바랄뿐입니다.
그리고 오늘 이 자리에서 진솔한 참가소감을 발표하면서 이제부터는 삶의 굳은 각오와 다짐으로 새로운 이정표를 찍는 계기가 되기를 바랍니다. 앞으로 기쁜 소식 많이 전해 주기를 바라면서 하나님의 사랑과 은혜가 여러분들의 삶속에 항상 풍성하기를 기원합니다.
